Finish your walk where you want to finish
The Ridgeway passes close to Watlington, while Watlington Hill provides a separate starting point for National Trust walking routes. This gives visitors a choice of outings, but also more than one possible meeting place. A collection at the end of a longer walk can save a second walk back to wherever you parked that morning.
Choose the endpoint before setting out. A footpath junction or the White Mark on the hillside can help describe a walk, but it does not necessarily provide somewhere a vehicle can stop. Agree a road-accessible location with the booking team and allow time to walk down to it. If you mean the National Trust car park, specify Watlington Hill on Hill Road rather than simply asking for the Watlington car park.
For friends walking together, group travel keeps the return journey together too. Rucksacks and walking poles take room as well as the passengers, so the vehicle needs to suit the whole party. You can head back to your accommodation for a change of clothes before continuing the evening in town.
